Father's Day and our Undying Hopes
Some countries entered into the “Father’s Day” earlier than we did in our part of the world. Ours (in this green-white-green country 🇳🇬) fell on 15th June of this year – today. But yesterday, as fate designed, an un-official mentor had dropped me an invaluable message through his periodical newsletter. He was on a faster lane than the rest of us. And you know what? That held some benefits! See some of those fine lines he wrote here where he described Fathers:
“The ones who steady the path without stealing the spotlight. The ones who are quietly, consistently building us up. Happy Father’s Day”
I then replied him by acknowledging the profoundness of those words, and my most unreserved appreciation.
And now since today is our own date allotment here to celebrate the fulfilment in Fatherhood – as we recall to mind its gems and relive some deep reflections that attend the day year after year – I’ll say a few things.
First, I’d like to state that the Father’s Day observance is deeply significant for “...the influence of fathers in society.” (thanks to Wikipedia). The Father figure is a symbol of some priceless values that humans in their programming can produce. I speak of courage, resilience, love, nobleness, guidance, leadership and more. It is that phase of life, occasion of responsibility, point of battle, and momentous era of life where the spectacular chance for heroism is offered to every fully matured man of society. It is to me, also, one that is particularly missed by people these men live behind.
Not to forget I’ll be a Father, too, in many parts someday and these formative years are just as precious as those times that one looks forward to – a subtle call to so love the race of godly righteousness, learn the realities of golden nobleness, and live it all in glorious truthfulness.
Quite importantly, for the love of our dear Fatherland, Nigeria, whose light of promise no travail can dim, and for the beckonings that we must answer to from time to time, as the years swiftly or gently pass – Happy Father's Day 💐.
With joy,
Ekene
